Who is a filmosopher?? What is filmosophy? by now the answers seem pretty obvious don't they?? Someone who likes to view films with a philosophical perspective, Films+Philosophy= Filmosophy, hence Filmosopher, it is also mentioned in the Columbia University press as a provocative new manifesto for a radically philosophical way of understanding cinema, thus unfortunately its not a term coined by me, but like always I have my perspective giving it a distinction and hence I like calling myself, a filmosopher, someone who derives his/her philosophy from films. Someone who learns many philosophical lessons from films.
Yes, that's true, obviously there are movies that are just meant for entertainment, but then, there are also movies that not only touch my heart but intrigue my mind, relate with my situation and connect with my soul. Some give me thoughts to ponder upon, some give me thoughts to reason with, some just leave me hopeful and pumped, some get me empathetic and considerate, some are retrospective and some introspective.
We admire films, we get entertained by them yet we disapprove them, we don't really refer to them as examples but they are good enough to inspire you and motivate you, quite a double standard here. The most hypo-critic line I've heard people say "Aisa sirf filmon mein hota hai....real life mein nahi.".(Things like these only happen in movies..not in real life) but aren't there many movies that have characters and situations inspired from real lives? that's something to think about.
As kids when we heard stories, we'd learn something, try and understand the moral of it, shouldn't it be same with movies too ? obviously not applicable for all movies but there are some that do say something.. some that manage to connect with us, some that try to say something very basic that we may have forgotten but they manage to say it with complex stories and even more complicated characters.
This is my explanation of what is filmosophy and why is it a thing of reckoning.. as for what is this filmospher's filmosophy ?? you'll get to know with time, picture toh abhi shuru hui hai (The film has just begun)
